Where it came from
The Steve Van Doren Pop figure, released as number 1 in the Vans Off the Wall collection, was designed to celebrate the legacy of the son of Vans co-founder Paul Van Doren. As the long-serving vice president of events and promotions, Steve Van Doren became a recognizable figure within the skate and surf communities, frequently seen at company events in his signature checkered patterns. The figure depicts him in his typical casual attire, serving as a corporate tribute to the brand's family-led history.
Funko produced this figure as part of a collaboration that highlighted key figures associated with the footwear brand's cultural influence. The design utilizes the standard Funko aesthetic to capture Van Doren's likeness, emphasizing his role as the public face of the company's grassroots marketing efforts. The item was received as a niche collectible for brand enthusiasts, marking a departure from the typical entertainment-based figures in the Funko Pop catalog by focusing instead on industry legacy figures.
