Where it came from
The New 52 Superman Funko Pop, numbered 7 in the Pop! Heroes line, represents the character's appearance following DC Comics' 2011 company-wide relaunch. This initiative sought to modernize legacy characters with streamlined costumes, most notably removing the traditional red trunks in favor of a more tactical, armored aesthetic designed by Jim Lee. The figure captures this transition, reflecting a period of significant narrative shifts for the publisher as they aimed to attract new readers with a darker, more contemporary tone.
Funko’s design process for this entry translated the intricate, high-collar costume details and the revamped emblem into their signature stylized vinyl form. The figure was received by collectors as a foundational piece of the early Pop! Heroes catalog, serving as a staple representation of the Man of Steel during the 2010s. It stands as a document of the period when DC moved toward a unified, refreshed visual identity that influenced comic book aesthetics for years to follow.
