Where it came from
Goro Takemura was released as part of the Funko Pop! Games line in 2020 to coincide with the highly anticipated launch of the action role-playing video game Cyberpunk 2077, developed by CD Projekt Red. The figure represents one of the game's central characters, a loyal Arasaka bodyguard whose complex arc serves as a primary narrative anchor throughout the player's journey in Night City.
The design of the figure leans into the distinct aesthetic of the Cyberpunk genre, capturing Takemura in his signature formal attire, complete with his stark corporate-style suit and cybernetic ocular implants. Funko designers aimed to distill the character's stoic and disciplined demeanor into their iconic stylized form factor, resulting in a piece that functions as both a memento of the game's expansive lore and a recognizable representation of its character-driven focus.
