Where it came from
The Birth Kovacs Funko Pop figure, numbered 924 in the Pop! Television line, was released to coincide with the popularity of the Netflix adaptation of Richard K. Morgan's cyberpunk novel, Altered Carbon. The figure depicts the protagonist Takeshi Kovacs in his original body, a design choice intended to capture his tactical, combat-ready appearance from the series' flashback sequences and the show's intricate world-building.
Funko’s design team utilized their standard stylized aesthetic to interpret the character’s rugged look, incorporating specific details like his tactical harness and signature hairstyle. As part of a series based on a high-concept science fiction show, the figure was aimed at collectors who value the integration of cyberpunk visual elements with the accessible, uniform scale of the Pop! brand. It is generally recognized within the hobby as a faithful, if simplified, representation of the character's core visual identity.
