Where it came from
Released as part of the Funko Pop! Myths series, number 25, this 6-inch vinyl figure depicts the legendary sea monster of Scandinavian folklore. The figure was designed to translate the titanic scale of the mythical beast into the stylized, large-eyed aesthetic characteristic of the Funko brand. By opting for a 6-inch scale rather than the standard 3.75-inch format, the designers emphasized the creature's immense and imposing reputation in maritime legends.
The Myths sub-line was established to celebrate cryptids, urban legends, and folklore figures, tapping into a broader cultural interest in mythological entities. The Kraken figure features intricate, tentacled detailing and a textured finish intended to mimic the creature's appearance as it breaches the surface. Upon its release, it was well-received by collectors who prioritize the Myths series for its departure from standard licensed pop culture media in favor of historical and literary themes.
