Where it came from
The 'This is Fine' dog originated in the January 9, 2013, installment of the webcomic Gunshow, created by artist KC Green. The strip depicts a cartoon dog sitting in a room engulfed in flames, calmly drinking coffee while declaring, 'This is fine.' Green designed the character to be a relatable vessel for surrealist anxiety, capturing a sense of forced composure amidst overwhelming chaos.
Following its debut, the image became a cultural touchstone for internet users expressing feelings of denial or resignation in the face of insurmountable problems. While Green initially intended the character to be a singular joke, the panel's widespread adoption eventually led to it being officially licensed for merchandise, including the popular vinyl figure produced by 100% Soft, which remains a definitive collector's item for those documenting digital history.
