Where it came from
Vax'ildan, the half-elf rogue from the first campaign of Critical Role, was immortalized as a Funko Pop! figure in 2020 as part of a collaboration between Funko and the show's production company. This release aimed to capture the iconic aesthetic of the Vox Machina heroes, with the figure showcasing Vax'ildan in his signature dark leather armor, complete with his twin daggers, following the immense popularity of the web series' transition from a home game to a global multimedia phenomenon.
The design emphasizes the character's brooding, agile nature, reflecting the artistic interpretation established throughout the series' animated and illustrative iterations. Fans of the show received the collection with significant enthusiasm, as it served as one of the first official merchandising opportunities for characters that had previously only existed through fan art and the players' own imaginations. The figure remains a touchstone for the early community-driven success of Critical Role.
