Where it came from
WrestleMania III was released by Funko as part of the initial wave of the WWE Pop! line, paying homage to the landmark 1987 professional wrestling event held at the Pontiac Silverdome. This event is widely considered the pinnacle of the 1980s wrestling boom, most notably featuring the historic main event between Hulk Hogan and Andre the Giant. The figure captures the aesthetic of the era's promotional materials and serves as a commemorative piece for collectors interested in the cultural intersection of sports entertainment and toy history.
The design of the figure, carrying the number 3 in the WWE series, was crafted to evoke the classic branding associated with the event's promotional art. By focusing on the visual identity of the 1987 spectacle, the design team aimed to satisfy nostalgia for the golden age of the World Wrestling Federation. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by wrestling fans and toy collectors alike, effectively establishing a template for how Funko would translate iconic sports moments into their stylized vinyl format.
