Where it came from
Zapp Brannigan, the pompous and self-deluded captain from Matt Groening's animated series Futurama, was released as figure number 1759 in the Pop! Animation line. The character was originally conceived as a satirical take on classic science fiction tropes and the archetype of the bombastic military leader, serving as a recurring antagonist and foil to the Planet Express crew since the show's debut in 1999.
The figure design captures Brannigan's distinctive velour uniform, medals, and signature hairstyle. As part of a revitalized wave of Futurama collectibles released to coincide with the show's 2023 revival on Hulu, this item reflects the enduring appeal of the series' character designs. It was received by fans as a long-awaited addition to the Funko catalog, filling a gap for major characters that had been absent from the toy line for several years.
