Where it came from
The 1:87 scale Bedford Fire Engine, identified as set number 255-1, was produced by Corgi Toys during the 1960s. This model was part of the Corgi Rockets and smaller-scale ranges developed to compete in the thriving die-cast vehicle market, where realism and functional play features were increasingly emphasized for younger collectors.
The design focused on replicating the iconic British Bedford fire appliance, a staple of municipal services during the mid-twentieth century. Corgi designers sought to capture the utilitarian aesthetic and bright livery of these emergency vehicles, utilizing precision casting to maintain the scale accuracy that defined the brand's reputation among hobbyists of the era.
