1:87 Bedford Tow Truck

The 1:87 scale Bedford Tow Truck, assigned set number 256-2, was produced by Corgi Toys during the mid-1960s. It originated within the brand's 'Corgi Rockets' or standard 1:87 scale series, which were designed to compete with the smaller, high-performance die-cast models popularized by rivals like Matchbox. This specific model reflects the era's focus on everyday utility vehicles, capturing the aesthetic of British commercial traffic during a period of rapid automotive expansion.

The design of the Bedford series was influenced by the actual Bedford TK cab, a staple of British road transport throughout the post-war decades. The miniature was crafted to emphasize play value, often featuring functional towing hooks or winches that mirrored the mechanical nature of real-life recovery vehicles. While it did not reach the iconic status of Corgi's film-tie-in models, it was well-received by collectors for its accurate scale representation and the robustness of its die-cast construction.
