2-in-1 Value Pack: Han Solo & Chewbacca

The 2-in-1 Value Pack, set 66591-1, was released by the LEGO Group as part of a promotional initiative designed to consolidate existing Star Wars sets into a single retail offering. These multi-pack releases typically emerged during the early 2000s to boost holiday sales and clear inventory, bundling two individual, previously released sets into one box. This specific pack combined the Han Solo (4517) and Chewbacca (4518) buildable figures, both of which were originally part of the short-lived LEGO Star Wars 'Figure' sub-theme, which focused on poseable, brick-built character models.

The design of these figures reflects the experimental period of LEGO Star Wars construction during the early 2000s, where designers utilized Technic-based internal skeletons covered by system bricks to create more articulated character representations. While the figures were technically ambitious, they received mixed feedback from the adult collector community due to their non-standard aesthetic, which leaned away from traditional minifigure-scale play. Despite this, the 2-in-1 pack remains a noteworthy piece of LEGO history, capturing a brief era where the brand explored larger-scale, display-focused character figures before the eventual pivot toward the modern Buildable Figures and Constraction lines.
