Where it came from
Released in 2019 to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the Star Wars saga, this promotional poster serves as a retrospective tribute to the legacy of the franchise. It was distributed primarily through official Lego retail channels during May the 4th events, aligning the celebration with the broader Star Wars fan community's annual observances. The design emphasizes a montage style, incorporating iconic character imagery and spacecraft that reflect the visual vocabulary established by the original trilogy and subsequent films.
The graphic design team at the Lego Group developed this piece to bridge the aesthetic gap between the tactile nature of brick-based building and the cinematic history of the Star Wars universe. By employing a stylized, illustrative approach rather than a strictly photographic one, the designers intended to evoke a sense of nostalgia while maintaining the distinct, playful branding associated with the product line. Upon its release, it was received favorably by collectors as a quintessential commemorative item that documented two decades of the collaborative partnership between Lucasfilm and the Lego Group.
