Where it came from
Action Comics #1 was originally published in June 1938 by National Allied Publications, a precursor to DC Comics. It marked the first appearance of Superman, a character created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster. The cover, featuring the iconic image of Superman lifting a green car, was designed to signal a new era of superhero storytelling during the Golden Age of comics, effectively launching the entire genre.
The 2015 San Diego Comic-Con exclusive release, identified as SDCC2015-3, served as a modern commemorative tribute to this foundational issue. Designed to celebrate the long-standing legacy of the DC Universe, the item was crafted to appeal to long-time collectors seeking a tangible piece of comic history. It was well-received by fans as a high-quality homage that honored Shuster’s original vision while serving as a centerpiece for the convention's retrospective programming.
