Where it came from
Alphabet Town, released under the Duplo theme in 2022, was designed as an educational tool for early childhood development. LEGO created this set to help young children engage with literacy and social play by combining brick building with letter recognition, encouraging toddlers to associate specific characters and structures with the alphabet.
The design focuses on chunky, safe components typical of the Duplo line, which was introduced by LEGO in 1969 to cater to smaller hands. By integrating printed letter bricks with mini-figures and a small vehicle, the designers aimed to foster spatial reasoning and language skills simultaneously. It was received as a functional, play-based pedagogical resource, reflecting LEGO's long-standing strategy of merging classic construction play with foundational preschool learning objectives.
