Where it came from
The LEGO Animal Picture Holders, set 41904-1, were released in 2020 as part of the LEGO DOTS product line. This series was designed to emphasize creative expression and personalization, moving away from traditional building instructions toward modular, decorative items. The set consists of three small, buildable cubes—designed to look like a cat, a llama, and a panda—intended to hold small photographs or notes.
The aesthetic of the set centers on the signature DOTS concept of customizable tile-based surfaces. By providing a base structure and a variety of colorful, patterned 1x1 tiles, the designers aimed to give users a tactile medium for repetitive, pattern-based decoration. Upon release, the DOTS line was recognized for its departure from standard play-sets, specifically targeting a demographic interested in desk accessories and functional room decor.
