Where it came from
The Baze Malbus buildable figure, released in 2017 as part of the Lego Star Wars Constraction line, was designed to represent the heavy gunner from the 2016 film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. This set series utilized ball-joint construction to offer a departure from traditional brick-based models, focusing on articulation and poseability to capture the distinctive rugged aesthetic of the character’s armor and his signature heavy repeating cannon.
The design process sought to translate the character's detailed tactical gear and mechanical weaponry into the specific technical constraints of the technic-based construction system. While the Constraction line was a notable niche within the broader Star Wars collection, it faced a mixed reception among long-time fans who favored traditional system sets, leading to the eventual discontinuation of the format shortly after this figure's production run.
