Where it came from
Released in 2022 as part of the Lego Creator postcard series, this set was designed to offer a compact, display-oriented build that celebrates iconic global landmarks. The Beijing Postcard 40654-1 utilizes a micro-scale construction technique to capture the essence of the city, featuring miniature representations of the Great Wall of China, the Temple of Heaven, and the Forbidden City within a flat, postcard-style frame.
The set was conceived as an accessible travel souvenir, appealing to adults and young builders interested in architecture and geography. The design team focused on balancing recognizable structural silhouettes with the inherent limitations of a small, two-dimensional format. Upon its release, it was well-received by the collector community for its clever use of perspective and its suitability as a minimalist desk ornament.
