Betrayal at Cloud City

Released in 2018 as part of the Star Wars Ultimate Collector Series, Betrayal at Cloud City was designed to capture the emotional climax of The Empire Strikes Back. The set recreates the iconic locations of Bespin, including the carbon-freezing chamber, the dining hall where Darth Vader reveals his lineage to Luke Skywalker, and the landing platform for the Slave I. It was developed to serve as a high-end display piece for adult fans, offering a cross-sectional view of the facility that emphasizes architectural playability over a singular enclosed structure.

The set includes eighteen minifigures, an unusually high count for its time, allowing collectors to recreate the specific tensions of the film's second act. Design lead Jens Kronvold Frederiksen and his team focused on modularity, ensuring that the sprawling layout remained stable while highlighting distinct color palettes for the different zones of the city. Upon release, it was noted for its departure from the standard closed-ship format typically found in the Ultimate Collector Series, favoring a diorama-style approach that invites deep engagement with the film's narrative beats.
