Where it came from
Blocks magazine issue 9 was released in 2015 as part of an independent monthly publication dedicated to the hobbyist community of adult fans of Lego. Established to fill a gap in the market for high-quality, long-form journalism focused on brick-based construction, the magazine provides an international perspective on building techniques, set reviews, and designer interviews. This specific issue reflects the editorial focus of the magazine during its early years, prioritizing community-led content and professional photography that highlighted the artistry behind mass-market plastic construction kits.
The editorial direction for the magazine was crafted by a team of enthusiasts who aimed to elevate the discourse surrounding the building hobby beyond simple product marketing. Designers and contributors for the early issues sought to create a tactile experience for readers, often featuring detailed breakdowns of MOCs (My Own Creations) and technical insights into set development. While independent, the magazine secured a loyal following due to its commitment to independent analysis and its role in documenting the evolving culture of adult builders during the mid-2010s.
