Where it came from
Released in 2021 as part of the LEGO Ninjago Legacy theme, the Boulder Blaster (71736) serves as an updated reimagining of the original 2015 set, the Titanium Ninja Tumbler. The design was conceived to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Ninjago franchise, specifically honoring the 'Tournament of Elements' narrative arc. Designers focused on enhancing the play functionality of the aircraft, integrating a rapid-fire shooter mechanism that replaced the static aesthetic of the original model.
The vehicle features a distinct olive green and dark red color scheme, reflecting Cole's character identity and earth-based elemental powers. Upon its release, the set was well-received by fans for its improved structural stability and the inclusion of the 'Legacy' Cole minifigure, which allowed long-time collectors to acquire updated versions of classic characters while introducing the design to a new generation of builders.
