Where it came from
The Boulder Blaster was released in 2014 as part of the Lego Ultra Agents theme, an original intellectual property that leaned into a high-tech, futuristic aesthetic. This set was designed to embody the narrative of the 'Ultra Agents' task force as they utilized specialized combat vehicles to defend Astor City from various villains. It reflects a period when the brand was experimenting with augmented reality integration, encouraging builders to interact with their physical sets through a corresponding mobile application.
The design features a distinctive dark blue and lime green color scheme, utilizing a mix of Technic and traditional system bricks to achieve a rugged, transformation-capable appearance. The set was conceived to emphasize playability, incorporating spring-loaded shooters and a cockpit that pivots to reveal concealed weapons. Upon its release, it was well-regarded by collectors for its unique aesthetic and the inclusion of specialized minifigures that defined the short-lived but memorable Ultra Agents line.
