Where it came from
Brick by Brick Dinosaurs, authored by Warren Elsmore, was published in 2018 as part of a series of educational building guides. The collection was designed to bridge the gap between creative LEGO play and natural history, providing builders with detailed, step-by-step instructions for constructing various prehistoric species. Elsmore, a renowned LEGO artist, created these models to encourage enthusiasts to use standard bricks to explore complex anatomical structures found in paleontology.
The reception of this book has been largely positive within the hobbyist community, specifically among parents and educators who utilize the guides for STEAM-based learning. By focusing on accessibility, the designs aim to simplify the construction process while maintaining a recognizable aesthetic that reflects common paleontological reconstructions. The set is regarded as a hallmark of the 'adult fan of LEGO' (AFOL) literature movement that prioritizes instructional design and artistic recreation.
