Where it came from
BrickJournal, founded by Joe Meno in 2005, emerged during a period when the adult fan of Lego (AFOL) community was transitioning from disorganized online forums to a more formal, enthusiast-led culture. Issue 10, released in late 2010, served as a significant milestone in the magazine's effort to document the professionalization of fan building, shifting the focus toward architectural modeling and sophisticated MOC (My Own Creation) techniques that challenged the conventional play patterns associated with the toy.
The design of the publication reflects a clean, instructional aesthetic intended to be both inspirational and practical for a maturing demographic. By featuring detailed breakdowns of construction processes and interviews with prominent designers, the magazine positioned itself as a bridge between the hobbyist community and the wider industrial design world. The issue received praise for its commitment to technical clarity, helping to elevate the visibility of fan-created engineering within the broader Lego enthusiast ecosystem.
