Where it came from
BrickJournal, founded by Joe Meno, emerged in the mid-2000s as the premier independent periodical dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO community. Issue 11, released in late 2010, serves as a significant snapshot of the hobby during a period when the brand was aggressively expanding its licensed themes and complex technical builds. The magazine was conceived to provide a professional platform for builders to showcase custom creations and exchange techniques that went beyond the instructional manuals provided in standard retail sets.
The editorial focus of this specific issue leaned heavily into the aesthetics of the brick-built environment, featuring photography and design insights from various prominent community contributors. By providing in-depth interviews and tutorials, the publication aimed to elevate the status of LEGO building from a childhood pastime to a recognized medium for artistic expression. It was received as a vital resource for collectors seeking to understand the evolving landscape of the hobby as digital building tools and online community forums began to proliferate.
