Where it came from
BrickJournal, launched in 2005 by editor Joe Meno, established itself as the premier publication dedicated to the adult fan of LEGO community. Issue 49, released in early 2018, continued the magazine's long-standing tradition of showcasing intricate custom builds, industry interviews, and techniques that bridge the gap between casual play and professional design. The publication was conceived as a way to formalize the discourse around LEGO as a medium for adult creativity rather than just a child's toy.
The editorial direction for this issue focused on the intersection of building techniques and thematic storytelling, drawing upon the contributions of prominent community builders who often provided behind-the-scenes insights into their creative processes. Like other entries in the series, it was designed with a clean, photography-heavy layout that emphasized technical clarity for readers looking to improve their own construction skills. It was received by the enthusiast community as a reliable resource for keeping pace with the rapid evolution of building parts and design trends.
