Where it came from
BrickJournal issue 7 was published in 2007 during a formative period for the LEGO hobbyist community. Edited and founded by Joe Meno, the magazine emerged as a critical independent platform for adult fans of LEGO (AFOLs), documenting the shift of the medium from a child's toy to a sophisticated artistic discipline. This specific issue focused on the burgeoning community culture and technical builds that defined the era of early online fan forums.
The publication was designed to provide professional-level coverage of custom creations, model-building techniques, and interviews with notable designers. By highlighting the work of individual creators rather than solely focusing on official corporate releases, the magazine helped codify the design language of the community. It was well-received for bridging the gap between casual enthusiasts and dedicated builders, eventually leading to its formal partnership with TwoMorrows Publishing.
