Where it came from
Released in 2022 as part of the LEGO Classic theme, the Bricks and Functions set was designed to introduce younger builders to the fundamental mechanics of movement and kinetic energy. The set emphasizes tactile learning, providing a variety of gears, axles, and specialized connector pieces that allow users to transform static structures into dynamic models. This release aligns with the broader LEGO Classic mission of promoting open-ended play and developing foundational engineering skills through hands-on experimentation.
The design of the set focuses on versatility, offering instructions for several distinct builds, such as a pirouetting ballerina, a pushing toy, and a crocodile with snapping jaws. By prioritizing functional movement over static display, the collection seeks to demystify complex mechanical concepts like torque and gear ratios in an accessible format. It was well-received by parents and educators as an effective tool for bridging the gap between basic brick building and more advanced technical construction systems.
