Where it came from
Released in 1968, the 115-1 Building Set arrived during a pivotal period for the LEGO Group as the company transitioned from simple brick-based toys to more sophisticated, open-ended construction systems. Part of the broader 'LEGO Basic' product line, this set was designed to provide children with a versatile assortment of bricks, windows, and doors, encouraging structural experimentation rather than the pursuit of a singular, predefined model.
The aesthetic of the 115-1 reflects the primary-colored design language that defined the era, prioritizing durability and creative flexibility. It was received by the market as a staple educational tool, valued for its ability to integrate seamlessly with other sets of the period. The design focus remained on accessibility, ensuring that the components could be utilized by young builders to replicate architectural concepts or realize imaginative structures without the constraints of contemporary themed instructions.
