Where it came from
The LEGO Icons Bumblebee (set 10338) was released in 2024 as part of the ongoing collaboration between the LEGO Group and Hasbro to celebrate the fortieth anniversary of the Transformers franchise. Designed to appeal to adult fans of the original 1984 animated series, the model captures the iconic G1 aesthetic of the Autobot scout, focusing on an authentic conversion mechanism that allows the figure to transition between its robot form and a yellow Volkswagen Beetle without the need for disassembly.
The set was developed as a companion to the earlier Optimus Prime model, aiming to replicate the nostalgic charm of the 1980s toy line through complex brick-built techniques. Upon release, it received favorable attention for its articulation and attention to detail, particularly regarding the character's signature blaster and shoulder-mounted cannon, successfully bridging the gap between a displayable sculpture and a functional, articulated action figure.
