Where it came from
Released in 2002 under the LEGO Dacta brand, set 10112-1 represents a specialized educational tool rather than a standard consumer retail kit. These sets were designed specifically for classroom environments to help educators introduce students to basic botanical structures and environmental concepts. The design follows the classic system-based building approach, utilizing simple, interlocking plastic elements to depict a stylized shrub, reflecting the brand's focus on functional, modular play over complex display aesthetics.
The Dacta line originated from the pedagogical philosophy that tactile, construction-based learning improves spatial reasoning and scientific engagement in children. While not as iconic as the company's licensed themes, these instructional models were widely used in school systems throughout the early 2000s. They were designed for durability and ease of assembly, intentionally avoiding the intricate details of modern collector sets in favor of clarity and utility in a busy educational setting.
