Castle Guard

The Castle Guard set, released in 1990 as part of the LEGO Castle theme, was designed to provide a small, affordable supplement to the larger fortress sets of the era. It emerged during a period when the brand was expanding its medieval line to include more specialized soldier figures and simple fortifications, allowing collectors to populate their existing castle models with additional troops. The set embodies the classic aesthetic of the Black Knights subtheme, characterized by a refined, cohesive color palette and the inclusion of the era's signature knight helmet designs.

The set was designed to capture the essence of a small defensive outpost, featuring a simple wall section, a catapult, and two minifigures equipped with period-appropriate armor and weaponry. While the construction is straightforward, it was well-regarded for its high play value-to-cost ratio, fulfilling the need for inexpensive army-building components.
