Where it came from
Released in 1978, the LEGO Castle Minifigures set, number 15-1, stands as one of the foundational building blocks of the LEGO Castle theme. During this era, LEGO shifted its focus toward modular play, introducing the earliest versions of the classic knight figure. These figures were designed with a distinct, minimalist aesthetic, featuring simple face prints and interchangeable visor helmets that would define the visual language of the theme for over a decade.
The design was credited to the internal creative teams at LEGO in Denmark, who sought to translate the high-fantasy appeal of medieval history into a compact, playable scale. Because the minifigure system was still in its infancy, the design was intentionally versatile, allowing children to swap torsos and headgear across different figures. Upon release, the set was well-received as a flexible accessory pack that expanded the playability of the fledgling Castle line, cementing the knight as a staple of the broader LEGO portfolio.
