Where it came from
Released in 1985, this small set is a quintessential example of the early expansion of the classic Castle theme. It was designed to provide builders with additional personnel for their fortifications, following the initial 1984 launch of the iconic Yellow Castle. During this period, the design philosophy focused on simplicity and modularity, relying on the classic smiley-face minifigure head and primary color schemes that defined the mid-1980s era of the product line.
The figures included in this set reflect the foundational aesthetic of the Castle theme, featuring the signature heraldry that helped establish the factional identities of the early series. These minifigures were produced at a time when the theme was rapidly gaining traction, serving as a cost-effective way for collectors to populate their layouts without the investment required for larger, structural sets. The set is fondly remembered by long-time enthusiasts for its role in the early development of medieval-themed play scenarios.
