Where it came from
The Catman minifigure, designated as 71017-16, was released in early 2017 as part of the first series of The LEGO Batman Movie Collectible Minifigures. This series was produced to coincide with the theatrical release of the film, expanding the expansive DC Comics universe through a whimsical and highly stylized lens that emphasized the deep bench of characters within Batman's lore.
Designed to capture the eccentric appearance of the character Thomas Blake, the figure features unique printed details, including a specialized cape and a utility belt motif that reflects his comic book aesthetic. The design team sought to translate the obscure villain into a small-scale format that maintained the visual integrity of the source material while fitting seamlessly into the aesthetic of the broader LEGO Batman collection.
