Where it came from
Released in 2020 as part of the initial wave of the Lego Super Mario theme, these blind-bagged character packs were designed to introduce various iconic enemies and NPCs into the interactive playset ecosystem. The series aimed to translate the diverse bestiary of the Mushroom Kingdom into a distinct, brick-built aesthetic that balanced recognizable character traits with the constraints of the modular system.
The design process focused on utilizing unique, specialized molded pieces for character heads, such as the Paragoomba, Bullet Bill, and Spiny, to ensure they remained identifiable to fans of the franchise. While the random nature of the distribution was met with a mix of excitement for the collectible aspect and frustration regarding completion, the series was well-received for its attention to detail and its role in expanding the playability of the digital Mario figure.
