Where it came from
The Chen minifigure, designated as part of set 891732-1, was released as a promotional polybag item in 2015. It was created to accompany the 'Tournament of Elements' story arc within the Ninjago theme, featuring the primary antagonist Master Chen. The design captures the character's distinct aesthetic, characterized by his serpent-like appearance, ornate purple robes, and a unique beard piece that reflects the show's departure into a more fantastical, elemental narrative.
The character design was developed by the LEGO Ninjago creative team to emphasize the villain's cunning and deceptive nature. As a central figure in the 2015 wave of sets, the Chen minifigure was received well by fans for its accurate portrayal of the on-screen character, particularly the intricate printing on the torso and the inclusion of his signature staff accessory. It remains a notable piece for collectors focusing on the expanded rogue gallery of the Ninjago universe.
