Where it came from
The CHI Eris set, released in 2013, was part of the inaugural wave of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme. Designed as an action-oriented constructible figure, it depicts the character Eris, an eagle warrior, equipped with a specialized weapon and the titular CHI orb. This theme was developed by the LEGO Group to replace the Ninjago line, focusing on a high-fantasy world of anthropomorphic animal tribes battling for control of a powerful natural energy source.
The design of Eris follows the aesthetic established for the initial Chima character figures, utilizing a mix of specialized plastic shells and Technic-based frames to allow for dynamic posing. While the broader Legends of Chima theme was a bold departure into narrative-heavy world-building, the reception of these specific constructible figures was mixed among fans, as some preferred traditional system-brick building over the more restrictive modular figure construction style.
