Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the inaugural wave of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme, Gorzan represents the leader of the Gorilla Tribe. The set was conceived during a period when the LEGO Group sought to replace the long-running Bionicle and Hero Factory aesthetics with a new character-driven action figure line featuring buildable Constraction figures, which prioritized playability and compatibility with the brand's proprietary Technic-based ball-and-socket system.
The design of the figure, characterized by its distinctive chest plate and oversized articulated fists, was crafted to evoke the raw strength and earthy, nature-centric philosophy of the Gorilla Tribe. Upon its release, the figure was well-received by fans of the building-figure genre for its unique aesthetic and solid construction, standing as a primary entry-level set that helped define the visual language of the Chima world's diverse animal-based factions.
