CHI Laval

Released in 2013 as part of the Lego Legends of Chima theme, CHI Laval represented the debut of the constraction-style figure sub-line. This set was designed to introduce the primary protagonist of the series, Laval the lion, in a larger, more poseable scale compared to the standard minifigures of the time. The design utilizes the building system previously seen in the Hero Factory sets, allowing for dynamic articulation and playability consistent with the action-figure aesthetic popular in that era of Lego products.

The creation of the Chima theme was a strategic effort by Lego to build a robust original intellectual property featuring animal-based clans and a unique power source known as CHI. CHI Laval was marketed alongside the animated television series, serving as a physical manifestation of the show's hero to encourage imaginative play. While the line received a mixed reception from adult collectors who preferred traditional system bricks, it was well-received by its target demographic of younger builders who appreciated the detailed molded armor pieces and the integration of theme-specific lore.
