Where it came from
Released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme, the Hyper Gorzan set belongs to the 'CHI' sub-line, which featured buildable action figures similar in construction to the Hero Factory system. This specific set depicts Gorzan, a gorilla character from the Gorilla Tribe, modified with CHI power to feature more robust armor and articulation compared to standard minifigures, reflecting the overarching narrative of the Chima universe where tribes battle for control of a powerful natural energy source.
The design of the figure was aimed at providing a modular, high-action play experience that integrated seamlessly with the broader Legends of Chima aesthetic. By utilizing the ball-and-socket joint system prevalent in contemporary LEGO action sets, the design team emphasized durability and poseability. Upon its release, the set was received as a functional entry point for fans interested in the theme's lore, balancing character-specific color palettes with the mechanical, elemental motifs characteristic of the Chima product line.
