Where it came from
The CHI Mungus set, released in 2013 as part of the LEGO Legends of Chima theme, represents the Mammoth tribe’s entry into the series’ battle-focused aesthetic. The set was designed to capture the imposing, mechanical nature of the Ice Hunters, featuring a large, buildable mammoth mech equipped with CHI-powered weaponry. Its design prioritizes a bulky, heavy silhouette to reflect the Mammoth tribe’s lore-based strength and slow but relentless temperament within the fictional world of Chima.
Legends of Chima was introduced by LEGO as an original intellectual property designed to bridge the gap between creative construction and high-fantasy action narratives. The CHI Mungus set was marketed during the height of the theme's popularity, appealing to fans of the franchise's episodic animation and those interested in the unique mechanical building techniques required for character-based mechs. It was well-received by fans for its inclusion of unique minifigures and its departure from standard vehicle-based sets within the broader Chima line.
