Where it came from
The LEGO Christmas Tree set 40338-1 was released in 2019 as a seasonal promotional item. It was distributed by LEGO during the holiday shopping season as a gift-with-purchase, typically requiring a minimum spend at official LEGO retail channels. This set was designed as a decorative tabletop piece to capture the aesthetic of traditional festive evergreens while utilizing standard building elements to achieve a rotating mechanism.
The design of the tree focuses on a modular, tiered structure finished with a star topper and colorful spherical ornaments. By incorporating a gear-based internal mechanism, the build allows for a manual spinning function, a common feature in LEGO's seasonal display items. The set was well-received by the adult collector community for its clean geometry and functional design, which departed from the more toy-like nature of previous promotional Christmas releases.
