Where it came from
Clay's Rumble Blade, released in 2016 as part of the Lego Nexo Knights theme, was designed to introduce a high-tech, futuristic aesthetic to the brand’s fantasy-inspired offerings. The set was created to anchor the launch of the Nexo Knights storyline, which blended medieval tropes with sci-fi elements like energy shields and digital magic, reflecting Lego's strategy to integrate physical building sets with a companion mobile app game.
The vehicle features a distinctive bold blue and silver color palette with orange accents, characteristic of the protagonist Clay Moorington's equipment. It was engineered with a unique split-function play feature that allows the smaller flyer to detach from the main chassis, a design choice intended to offer versatile display and interaction options for younger builders. Upon release, the set was noted for its innovative use of specialized translucent parts that helped define the visual identity of the Nexo Knights product line.
