Where it came from
The Crocodile and Sea Lion set, numbered 2662-1, was released in 1999 as part of the Lego Duplo Zoo line. This theme was designed to introduce toddlers to the animal kingdom through durable, oversized bricks that were safe for young children. By focusing on iconic, recognizable creatures like crocodiles and sea lions, Lego aimed to provide a tactile learning experience that encouraged early motor skill development and imaginative play.
The design of these figures adheres to the characteristic Duplo aesthetic of the late nineties, emphasizing soft, rounded edges and simplified anatomical features. The figures were crafted to be compatible with standard Duplo systems, allowing them to be integrated into larger zoo-themed dioramas or stand alone as tactile tools for preschool education. Upon their release, these sets were well-received by parents and educators alike for their robustness and the clear, bright colors that defined the Lego brand's approach to the toddler market during this period.
