Where it came from
The Death Star II Battle set, released as set number 40407, was issued by the LEGO Group in May 2020 as a promotional item. It was designed to coincide with the annual Star Wars Day celebrations, commonly known as May the Fourth, which commemorates the iconic film franchise. The set serves as a micro-scale tribute to the climactic space battle seen in the 1983 film Return of the Jedi.
The design utilizes a compact footprint to recreate the iconic space station alongside an A-wing and a TIE Interceptor in a display-oriented format. Intended primarily as a collector's gift-with-purchase, the model relies on printed tiles rather than stickers to capture the spherical details of the station. It received a positive reception from adult fans of the series for its displayability and its focus on a specific, recognizable moment from the cinematic trilogy.
