Where it came from
The LEGO City Deep Space Rocket and Launch Control set, released in 2019, was designed as part of the wider 'Space Port' sub-theme. This set drew heavy aesthetic inspiration from NASA's then-active Artemis program, aiming to capture the excitement surrounding modern commercial and governmental space exploration efforts. Its design process focused on playability and modularity, featuring a multi-stage rocket, a launch tower, and a control center that allowed builders to simulate the entire countdown and launch sequence.
Upon its release, the set was noted for its inclusion of the LEGO City 'Space' research motifs, which emphasized a realistic look grounded in current aerospace technology rather than science fiction. The set was well-received by the building community for its technical details, such as the monorail system and the functional launch gantry, which provided a more immersive experience for younger builders interested in STEM-related themes.
