Where it came from
The LEGO Ideas Dinosaur Fossils set, released in 2019, originated from a fan submission by Jonathan Brunn. Selected through the LEGO Ideas platform, which allows enthusiasts to submit their own designs for potential commercial production, the set was chosen for its educational appeal and its sophisticated aesthetic, which diverged from the brand's more traditional play-oriented themes.
The design team at LEGO refined Brunn’s concept to ensure structural integrity while maintaining the display-focused nature of the build. The final set includes scale models of a Tyrannosaurus rex, a Triceratops, and a Pteranodon, all presented on display stands with information plaques. It was well-received by the adult collector market for its minimalist, museum-style presentation and its focus on natural history.
