Where it came from
LEGO DOTS Craft Tape was introduced as part of the broader DOTS line, a theme launched in 2020 designed to emphasize creative self-expression and wearable customization. The tape was developed as a flexible, adhesive-backed building surface that allowed builders to attach standard 1x1 LEGO DOTS tiles to unconventional, curved, or temporary surfaces, moving beyond the traditional static baseplate.
The product was conceived by the LEGO Group design team to bridge the gap between traditional model building and arts-and-crafts projects. It received attention for its versatility, marketed as a way to personalize everyday items like notebooks, walls, or furniture. While the DOTS theme was eventually discontinued, the craft tape remains noted for its unique material experimentation within the LEGO portfolio.
