Where it came from
Released in 2013, the Dragon Bolt set (44009-1) was part of the LEGO Hero Factory line, a sub-theme that served as the spiritual successor to Bionicle. This set represented the 'Brain Attack' series, a narrative arc where the characters faced off against alien parasites. The design focused on the creature's serpentine, articulated form, utilizing specialized ball-and-socket joints that allowed for a wide range of motion, reflecting the line's emphasis on action-oriented construction and durability.
The creature was designed with a color palette of black, translucent neon green, and gold, intended to create a menacing, mythical aesthetic. It was well-regarded by collectors of the system for its complex build, particularly the integrated wing and tail structures. As a mid-sized set in the theme, it bridged the gap between smaller drone builds and the larger, more intricate villain sets of the Hero Factory era, effectively capturing the chaotic, insectoid visual language synonymous with the Brain Attack wave.
